Mr Castro, excellent to see you again when we were over in the US. Could'nt believe how we bumped into you outside The Grant & Green on the Sunday night. One of those strange coincedence things I guess. Really enjoyed the jam you did with Nitro at The Saloon and as for the gig at Lou's, what can I say. You really are the real deal. As Antony and I said to you, the feeling just pours out from your playing.
Once again, thanks for the music and the warm welcome and looking forward to hooking up with you again at some point
Cheers

Daniel(thebluesmaster)Castro,
I happened to be in the San Francisco area in mid 1999 and caught your awesome
show at Lou's!!!! I've travel this country and have yet to see anyone equal the kind
of passion and artistry that you put into the blues.
I still find myself telling associates about you guitar playing abilities....
If you ever get the chance to play the mid-west area (Michigan especially) let me know!!!
I'll bring a whole gang of Blues fans!!!

So,Henderson starts all this hype, upon return from Frisco, saying he ran into this guitar player who blew the doors off the Grant and Green. Two years past I head out with Henderson for the SF Blues Fest. to find Danny Castro was playing at the Grant & Green on Thrusday. There must have been about ten people in the whole damn place. Hell, I wanted to return to the Saloon, but Henderson kept insisting. Out comes this unassuming individual who sits up the band stand and then proceeds to run through every blues style known to man and then some and did so with such ease. STUNNED, to say the least. After three sets of this, he launches into his closer which was this 12 bar Albert King riff and works the living hell out of it for some 20 minutes - - - looks out at our table - smiles and then pushes the whole thing up to a completely different level when everybody in the place would swear there was no place to take it. Wrong and WOW!!!!! If this kind hearted soul comes to your town, feel blessed and do not miss
him. I am not one to beat the drum for others, but you have to catch Danny Castro. There are far too, too many Rock-A-Day Johnnys out there that believe they can play the blues and realy waste all our time. Not Danny Castro. Catch before you grow too, too old, flop and find yourself voting for some Republican. I promise you will not be disappointed. Thanks Danny for one of the best blues shows in a long, long time. Can't wait to see you at Winthrop this summer and don't forget to eat your daily SPAM. Best and thanks again.

Daniel,
I'm sitting in the library at U.C. Berkeley -- you know, studying; but I'm listening to your CD on my computer CD-rom drive and everybody's looking at me like I'm a freak. Too much head bobbin' and foot tappin' I guess. Anyway some future MBA woman, about 25....hold on I'll ask her...She's 27 and her name is Marcia, was looking at me funny and asked what I was listening to (I'm using headphones -- it's a library after all) and I let her listen to "On the Telephone," and "I'll Play the Blues for You." She thinks you must be a god, or at least one of the Muses. Well, I'll let her tell you herself: were using the UCB internet system. I think it's only supposed to be used for academic purposes. And trust me, your music is anything but academic. We may be at risk for arrest here. But anyway here's Marcia: Daniel your music is beautiful and terribly moving. Scott tells me you're playing at The Saloon Saturday night. I'll be there, and if you live performance is anything like your CD I'm going to sign up as your number one fan. Also, save me a copy of your CD; actually save me two. I'll need to send one to my brother in Michigan too. Can't wait to see you and hear you play. You made the library rock tonight. Marcia
Okay, there you have it, an unsolicited endorsement and email order. We'll see you Saturday. Scott.

Daniel,
Here's the story Bro. Caught your afternoon show a couple of years ago at Lou's during Fleet Week (you weren't even scheduled to appear, you had to fill in at the last minute). Lived in N.Y. then, live in San Diego now. Been waiting to hear about your CD; called the number in the Southland Blues magazine last week and left message, but no reply yet. You should offer the CD for sale on this web page. San Diego has a true blue and loyal blues fan base. You ought to schedule some appearances here and in L.A. etc. How 'bout it Bro.? Hey brother, I'm so glad we did the , "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" thing at the Saloon the other night.
I think I got the better deal. What a great CD, and you sure picked the right guy to work with. When I did my first album we recorded one cut at Lee Parvin's studio and without a dought it was the best sounding cut on the album.
On top of that he's a great guy. Thanks again for trading CDs with me, it's really good and it's going to take you higher.........Hack

Describe the taste of chocolate. We all know that taste. Yeah, go ahead and describe it now. Come on. Um huh. You can't do it and neither can anyone else. It's unique and something that is all it's own.
Castro and Company arrived at the Winthrop Palace during the late afternoon of Friday for his show later that evening and his appearance tomorrow at the Winthrop Blues Festival. He was met by John and karen who returned telling of their conversations with the man. After the envy fell off, the SPAM BOYS and, as Daniel pointed out later during the evening set, 'One SPAM chick', prepared and found our way to the Palace. It was and odd shaped room with off-shoot connecting rooms for seating, a fair sized bar, outer deck and a dance floor the size of your living room without all the furniture. They kicked off the first two hour set with 'On The Telephone and worked their way up tp 'Talk About MY Baby' which became an extended jam that came around three times with the now packed house taking on all the lead vocals just before it was shut down with a smashing/thrashing-type ending. It was one of those experiences where you say to yourself - - - 'I believes I bees in for a longs night with this one here.' Damn, they were very tight, yet loose. I moved back to our table for some relief and - - - off they go again. But, what is that? That sound? Castro has fallen into a 6 or 8 bar riff that is being counter pointed by none other than John on a pea harp. Hell, he's on stage with Castro who is leaving him to his own due - - - and on a pea harp no less. This is priceless!!!!! A short interlude takes place back at our table with all the SPAM crowd when the first cords of 'Mojo' are heard demanding for all to return to the dance floor. WOW!!!! The house picked-up on the call back chorus early in the song which continued to build to an unbelievable pitch. This was it. Muddy would have been proud, if not taken aback, by allthe overall power and grasp the band had of his standard. You had to be there.
The second set lost nothing following a short break. It's SHOW TIME!!!! I move back to the dance floor and find two chairs against the wall and stand on one of them to get a better view of the proceedings. Lori, Daniel's peroidic vocalist, joins me on the other chair with the extended jams continuing unabated. I became aware that the chair I am standing on is heaving. I questioned if the floor was sprung like the Avalon, but no. Hell, this place is going to drop right into the Methow River with all this pounding weight and mayhem. GREAT FUN!!!! New song. Slow and deliberate cording. I turn to Lori and ask, 'Watchtower?'. Lori returned, 'Oh, yeah.' Again, in my head, I am questioning Castro's choice of taking on an icon of the folk/rock genre. Does he have the prowess to do so? (Yea, of little faith.) It's presented as a - - - it's arranged as a blues, yet staying true to the original form. WOW!!!! The house takes on vocal responsibilities again with only limited coaxing from Daniel. The whole house is yelling the lyrics as if they were unleashed and angered Dylans. This WAS chocolate. This WAS it. The show closes with the SPAM BOYs and ONE SPAM CHICK retreating with mouths agape and in wait fot tomorrow's set at the festival.
They came on at about 1:15 or 1:30. The central Washington sun was also in fine form causing for the vast majority of the audience to lay low in fear of heat exhaustion, but Daniel had them up in no time picking-up where he left off the night before. The party is back on people - - - but it is short lived. Time restraints, you know. The next act and all that sorta thing. But, hey, this is cooking. A GREAT SET!!!! PUSH!!!! PUSH!!!! The bottom was pounding, driving and counter pointing just like the night before. Daniel's fill work on his own lead was exceptional. And, he knew that - - - we knew it as well with that smile and wink of his eye. Twas a wonderful set to say the very least. Daniel falls into his verbal good-bye to the crowd and jumps into 'MOJO' and works the living hell out of it. Build, build, fall-off, build, Build, BUILD!!!!Wham/slam/bam/BOOM!!!!!! He now gets into having the crowd call out the chorus. You know the drill, but this is more than a full house of booze and such. The first tease is given to the audience who respond in loud and uproarious return calling for Daniel to take a step back laughing to himself. Yes, the festival WAS his. He worked and squeezed the end of Mud's song for everything he and the audience could get. And, we got it. EVERYBODY UP!!!!! And, it was over.
For those reading this and who have never experienced this band, do so NOW!!!! You say - - -'Oh, hell it's just a blues band.' Wrong. Very Wrong. It's a chocolate sundae with extra rich whipped cream, nuts (big nuts, at that) and unexpected ya-yas. And, after having done so, you can then look into the eyes of others who have likewise been there and mutually be able to explain the taste of chocolate together.
On a personal note, - - - Daniel - - - your words to me from the stage rermain deep in my heart. My soul tells me we WILL meet again and, if not here, on the flip side. Love and best to yours and you. You Are family. You will always remain in my heart of hearts. Oh, and don't forget to eat your daily SPAM. We all love ya out here!!!!!
Oh, - - - and PS.. Hey Shawn. All them Mojos were for you!!!!!!!!!

I played it several times on my drive home through the mountains and it's everything you said it was, and more. It's excellent! Thanks for not compromising the quality of your sound for any of the reasons we talked about. Hope you can play the Mt.Baker Blues Festival next year.
